Specialist & specialised library

The Fritz Reuter Literature Museum has set itself the task of documenting the work and creations of Stavenhagen’s most famous son, Fritz Reuter, as comprehensively as possible and making them accessible to an interested public. As a recognised research centre, the museum also features a special academic library in addition to its archives.

For over seventy years, everything about Fritz Reuter has been collected and preserved in the Literature Museum. The documentation of Low German as a spoken and literary language is also a constant focus of the collection. Since 1949, the library’s collection has grown to around 17,000 volumes.

The academic reference library comprises four rooms and offers the best opportunities for academic work. The academic reference library comprises four rooms and offers the best opportunities for academic work. The specialist library follows a collection tradition developed specifically for it from the outset – with its own cataloguing system, which has resulted from the tasks it has set itself. This systematisation corresponds with the constant academic processing of the cultural, linguistic heritage and the demands of the users.

In addition to essays, articles on Reuter and works by contemporary writers, modern Low German authors and Mecklenburgica can also be found in the library of the Fritz Reuter Literature Museum.

Important parts of the collection can be found via a database that is available online.
